[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Kang Min-jin, the leader of the Youth Justice Party, who was accused of workplace harassment against party staff, has resigned.
On the 15th, Kang posted on her Facebook, stating, "There was an issue raised against me by a party staff member who worked at the Youth Justice Party," and added, "I deeply feel responsible for the controversy related to labor rights occurring within a party that stands for workers."
Kang said, "The party leadership has decided to form a fact-finding committee," and "For the fairness of the investigation process, I have decided that it is right for me to participate as an ordinary party member, not as the Youth Justice Party leader, just like former party staff. I will sincerely cooperate with the investigation, clarify what needs to be clarified, and reflect on what needs reflection."
Earlier, some Youth Justice Party staff members revealed on a Telegram group chat on the 14th that Kang had abused her power over party staff. The allegations included Kang asking staff to drive her car for personal errands and giving work instructions late at night. There were also claims that although Kang said during the hiring process that staff could work for more than a year, the reality was different.
Oh Seung-jae, spokesperson for the Justice Party, claimed, "Several party staff who left the Youth Justice Party could no longer endure Kang’s abuse of power and workplace harassment and resigned," and even initiated a petition for signatures.
Meanwhile, the Justice Party held an emergency joint meeting of the leadership and lawmakers on the same day and decided to form a fact-finding committee to ascertain the facts.
