[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Local media reported on the 13th (local time) that a bus carrying Ukrainian refugees overturned in Italy, resulting in one death.
According to reports, the accident occurred early this morning on the A14 highway connecting the northern city of Bologna and the southern city of Taranto.
The bus, traveling near Forl? about 70 km from Bologna, suddenly hit a guardrail and veered off the road into adjacent farmland.
It is known that about 20 Ukrainian refugees were on the bus. Initially, 54 people were on board, but about half got off at a stop just before the accident.
Local media reported that a 32-year-old woman died and at least five others were injured in the accident. The injured are in stable condition.
The bus reportedly departed from western Ukraine and had been driving for nearly 20 hours.
Fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident, considering the possibility of driver drowsiness, as there were no skid marks?tire marks left when a vehicle brakes suddenly?at the scene.
Meanwhile, since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on the 24th of last month, about 35,000 refugees have entered Italy to date.
