5·18 Event Committee Calls for Nationwide Submissions of Main Slogan by the 13th

Recruitment for Promotion Team 'Owolideul' Until the 6th of Next Month

The 42nd Anniversary May 18 People's Uprising Memorial Event Committee (Standing Event Chairman Jeong Dongnyeon) announced on the 8th that it will hold a nationwide contest for the representative slogan of the 42nd Anniversary May 18 People's Uprising Memorial Event until the 13th.

The contest content should well reflect the meaning, theme, and direction of the 42nd Anniversary May 18 People's Uprising. Criteria include expressions that incorporate the May 18 spirit into the preamble of the constitution and the will for a complete truth investigation, expressions that depict Gwangju's May as everyone's May opening a changed world and a new era, and expressions that portray the great May community moving beyond the armistice line fences from May toward unification.

The slogan should be a concise phrase within 20 Korean characters and submitted via email to the May 18 Event Committee. To select a meaningful and substantial slogan with nationwide participation, the committee will award 500,000 KRW to the winning entry (1 person) and 100,000 KRW each to five runners-up.

Additionally, until the 6th of next month, the committee is recruiting the online youth activist May Promotion Group ‘Owolideul’ nationwide to promote the 42nd anniversary May 18 Memorial Event.

The May Promotion Group ‘Owolideul’ is a project to discover and support youth activists with a professional reporter character who can promote the May 18 Memorial Event held nationwide including Gwangju through online and SNS media in the COVID-19 situation and the untact era.

Eligibility includes those who wish to inherit the spirit of the May 18 People's Uprising and work as youth activists, are proficient in using SNS media to promote and encourage participation in the 42nd anniversary event, and operate personal blogs, YouTube channels, etc., capable of writing and photography. Activity fees will be provided according to each activity.

Applications can be made through the May 18 Event Committee website. Download the application form from the website, fill it out, and submit it via email.

Results can be checked on the May 18 Event Committee website notice board after 4 PM on the 15th of next month.

Meanwhile, the May 18 Event Committee, marking its 42nd anniversary, will hold an inauguration ceremony next month and begin full-scale preparations for the May 18 Memorial Event.

Plans are being made considering social distancing levels due to the spread of COVID-19, and various methods to inherit the May 18 spirit suitable for the new era will be experimented with, along with events to increase participation of the younger generation.
