1 in 10 Users Confirm Account Information Leakage
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The number of users utilizing the 'Find My Leaked Information Service,' which allows individuals to check if their personal information has been leaked, has surpassed 180,000 within just one month of operation. It was found that one out of every ten users confirmed through this service that their account information (ID and password) had been leaked.
According to the Personal Information Protection Commission on the 21st, a total of 182,218 people directly checked whether their account information had been leaked from the launch of the 'Find My Leaked Information Service' on the 16th of last month until the 15th of this month.
The 'Find My Leaked Information Service' is a service where users input their online account information (ID and password) to be informed if there is any history of leakage. The Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency structured the site to allow users to verify leakage by utilizing 23 million domestic account information records illegally distributed on the dark web and Google's password check service (over 4 billion records).
Among the approximately 180,000 users who checked their account information leakage status through the 'Find My Leaked Information Service' over the past month, 18,095 users were confirmed to have had their account information leaked, resulting in a leakage confirmation rate (match rate) of 9.93% among users.
Additionally, the number of users utilizing the membership withdrawal proxy service (e-Privacy Clean Service) following leakage history confirmation surged after the service launch. The average daily visitors to the 'e-Privacy Clean Service' increased sharply from 6,685 before the leakage check service started to 11,190 during the first month after the service launch.
