The inspection team will focus on 25 manufacturers, checking self-quality inspections, raw material ledger entries, use of unregistered or unreported products, storage and sale of expired products, compliance with hygienic handling standards for food, and health examinations of workers.
Ten products expected to see a sharp increase in sales during Christmas and the year-end holidays will be collected and closely examined for preservatives, unauthorized tar dyes, and other standards and specifications.
They will also conduct focused tests for food poisoning bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella.
Companies violating the Food Sanitation Act and other regulations will face administrative actions according to relevant laws, non-compliant products will be recalled and destroyed, and intentional illegal acts will be subject to criminal prosecution.
Kim Heungjun, Director of the Hygiene Policy Division, said, “We hope safer food will be supplied to citizens,” adding, “We will conduct preemptive inspections of foods with increased consumption during specific periods to prevent food safety accidents.”
