'West Side Story' to Open on January 12 Next Year

The Walt Disney Company Korea announced on the 6th that the movie "West Side Story" will be released on January 12 next year. It is a musical film depicting the love and courage of Maria and Tony, who dream of their own world without conforming to their environment and fate. The original work is the Broadway musical of the same name introduced in 1957. Jerome Robbins, who conceived the original idea, took charge of choreography and directing. The music was composed by Leonard Bernstein, famous as a classical composer. Although it marked the golden age of musicals, it was somewhat different from the trends popular at the time. Dance was more central than drama, and it had a rare strong tragic nature. Robbins cast Natalie Wood and Robert Wise to make a film adaptation in 1961. This time, the megaphone was held by Hollywood master director Steven Spielberg. The cast includes Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, and Mike Faist.
