POSCO Engineering & Construction announced on the 6th that it has been selected as an outstanding company for community contribution for three consecutive years at this year's Community Contribution Recognition Day awards ceremony. POSCO E&C was recognized as an outstanding company for community contribution by receiving the Minister of Health and Welfare Award.
The 'Community Contribution Recognition System' is a program by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare that acknowledges companies and public institutions for their continuous efforts in solving community issues. Since the system was launched in 2019, POSCO E&C has been selected as an outstanding company every year. This year, it earned high scores across 25 evaluation indicators in ESG areas including environmental management, social contribution, and ethical management, winning the ministerial award.
POSCO E&C participates in solving community problems in over 140 sites nationwide, including Pohang and Incheon where its headquarters and office buildings are located, collaborating with various external organizations such as government agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations.
Since 2013, POSCO E&C has been working with the National Fire Agency to improve fire prevention housing environments for fire-vulnerable groups. Since 2004, it has maintained a sisterhood relationship with Pohang Jukdo Market, conducting employee shopping activities and campaigns to purchase traditional market gift certificates. Since 2011, it has supported 30 child care centers in Incheon, assisting over 13,000 children.
This year, POSCO E&C actively carried out social contribution activities from an ESG management perspective. In cooperation with the Korea Coast Guard, it conducted coastal environmental cleanup activities in Incheon, Samcheok, Ulsan, and Saemangeum areas and developed educational materials for youth on marine pollution prevention. It also provided medical and legal consultation support for foreign workers at construction sites who were vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A POSCO E&C official stated, "We will continue to communicate with various stakeholders as a 'corporate citizen growing together' and contribute to creating a better world."
