Netflix's 'Jigok' Popularity Boosts Naver Webtoon Views by 22 Times


[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] The heat surrounding the Netflix series "Hellbound" continues to extend to the original Naver Webtoon.


Naver Webtoon announced on the 6th that since the release of "Hellbound" on Netflix, the average views of the original webtoon have increased by about 22 times, and the weekly average number of paying users has increased 14 times.


Interest from overseas readers in the original webtoon has also grown. According to Naver Webtoon, positive responses from international readers continue. Currently, the webtoon "Hellbound" is available in a total of 10 languages, including English, Japanese, Thai, and Spanish, through Naver Webtoon's global service.


The Netflix series "Hellbound," released on the 19th of last month, involved director Yeon Sang-ho and writer Choi Gyu-seok, the original webtoon creators, directly participating in directing and scripting. Within three days of the series release, it recorded 43.48 million viewing hours and ranked first in Netflix's global TOP 10 (non-English) category, achieving worldwide success.


The webtoon "Hellbound" tells the story of a supernatural phenomenon where people receive death sentences to hell from emissaries of hell who appear without warning. Amid this chaos, the newly risen religious group Saejinrihoe and those trying to uncover the truth behind the incidents become entangled. It was first published on Naver Webtoon starting with the "Prologue" episode in August 2019 and concluded last September. It can be enjoyed through Naver Webtoon, Naver Series website, mobile web, applications (apps), and PC.
