[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A man in his 20s who forged his superior's ID to approve his own leave during military service was caught after discharge and sentenced to a suspended prison term.
According to the legal community on the 5th, the Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 11 (Presiding Judge Kim Seongryul) sentenced A (23), who was indicted on charges of forging and using electronic records, to 4 months in prison with a 1-year suspension last month on the 26th.
A served as an administrative soldier in an Air Force company at Gyeryongdae, Chungnam, in November 2019. Without the company commander's permission, he created a fake leave application form indicating four days of leave in January to February 2020.
He then secretly accessed the Defense Personnel Information System site using the company commander's ID and password, which he knew, approved his own leave, and sent the documents to the personnel department.
A was discharged a few weeks after taking the leave, but the fact was revealed later and he was brought to trial. He admitted to the crime and submitted a letter of apology to the court.
Presiding Judge Kim stated, "The nature of this crime is not light," and added, "The defendant's deep remorse and lack of prior criminal record were considered in sentencing."
