[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] BGF Group announced on the 5th that it conducted the '2021 BGF Sharing Festival' to provide meals to children from low-income families who suffer from food insecurity.
The BGF Sharing Festival is a donation campaign where BGF Group employees voluntarily participate in sharing activities, combining the funds they raise with support from the BGF Welfare Foundation to give a warm year-end to neighbors in need. Since last year, to prevent COVID-19 infection, the campaign has been linked with the BGF Welfare Foundation's 'Warm Meals Delivered Home (Jibeuro Onbap)' program.
The 'Warm Meals Delivered Home (Jibeuro Onbap)' program, organized by the BGF Welfare Foundation, is a child support project that delivers balanced meals to target households through Hello Nature's early morning delivery service, so that children can comfortably have meals even on weekends when care centers are unavailable.
Using the funds raised through last year's BGF Sharing Festival, BGF Group provided a total of 5,000 meals to 70 children this year. The meal plans were diversified into Korean, Chinese, and Western cuisines considering the nutrition needs of growing children, and to minimize cooking risks, the meals were prepared as products that can be easily heated in a microwave.
To support children's weekend meals next year as well, BGF Group recruited participants for the BGF Sharing Festival for fifteen days starting from the 22nd of last month, resulting in about 1,000 employees volunteering and raising approximately 20 million KRW in donations.
The BGF Welfare Foundation plans to support meals for about 80 vulnerable elementary school students in Seoul with approximately 50 million KRW in funds, combining the donations collected this way with 30 million KRW in support from the foundation.
Min Seung-bae, Head of BGF Human Resources and General Affairs Office, said, "The warm hearts of BGF Group employees thinking of children have come together, allowing us to share more meals with underprivileged children next year," adding, "Going forward, BGF Group will continue to be a good friend who steadfastly supports the children around us with care and affection."
Meanwhile, the BGF Welfare Foundation is also conducting support activities such as ▲ cochlear implant surgeries for hearing-impaired children ▲ treatment and living space improvements for children in group homes ▲ cultural and artistic experience activities for visually impaired children and youth.
