[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, is shown to be slightly ahead of Yoon Seok-youl, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, within the margin of error. Although within the margin of error, this is the first time that Lee's support rate has surpassed Yoon's in a public opinion poll conducted 100 days (as of last month 29) before the presidential election.

Channel A commissioned the polling agency Research & Research to survey 1,008 voters nationwide from the 27th to the 29th of last month, asking "Who would you vote for in next year's presidential election?" The results showed that 35.5% of respondents chose Lee, while 34.6% chose Yoon.

The gap between the two candidates is 0.9 percentage points, indicating a close race within the margin of error.

Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, received 6.0%, Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party received 4.9%, and Kim Dong-yeon of the New Wave party received 1.6%.

By age group, Lee led Yoon among voters in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Conversely, Yoon received significant support from those in their 50s and 60s and older.

Among 18-29 year-olds (119 respondents), 22.1% supported Lee, while 14.6% supported Yoon. In their 30s (125 respondents), 35.7% preferred Lee and 28.2% preferred Yoon. Among those in their 40s (200 respondents), 57.3% supported Lee, nearly three times the 19.6% support for Yoon.

Among voters in their 50s (221 respondents), 39.3% supported Lee and 40.7% supported Yoon. Among those in their 60s (343 respondents), 27.0% supported Lee and 55.1% supported Yoon.

Regionally, Lee showed strength in Chungcheong (107 respondents) and Honam (100 respondents). Conversely, Yoon led in Seoul (202 respondents) and Daegu-Gyeongbuk (105 respondents). Yoon also led within the margin of error in Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (148 respondents) and Gangwon-Jeju (46 respondents).

When asked about the reason for choosing their preferred candidate, 41% responded "Not the best, but the second-best candidate." 34.3% said they chose "the best candidate," and 13.3% answered "not the worst, but the lesser evil."

Meanwhile, this survey was conducted via landline and mobile phone interviews, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For more details, refer to the Central Election Survey Deliberation Commission website.
