The Serious Accident Punishment Act Explanation Session was conducted as part of the 'Wise Industrial Accident Prevention Life Campaign,' a regional labor-management-government cooperation revitalization support project jointly hosted by the Incheon Metropolitan City Labor-Management-Government Council and the Incheon Employers Federation.
Lee Ki-yoon, representative attorney of Law Firm Sarami, focused on introducing the key contents of the Serious Accident Punishment Act and corporate response measures following the enforcement of the law during the session.
The Serious Accident Punishment Act, which will be enforced from January 27 next year, imposes safety and health assurance obligations on business owners or management officials, increasing the civil and criminal risks for companies, including the possibility of criminal punishment for CEOs, making response strategies increasingly important.
Attorney Lee Ki-yoon undertook education to help companies understand serious industrial accidents and support the establishment of safety and health management systems. He delivered more concrete and practical content through status assessment via self-diagnosis of safety and health management system establishment, introduction of key issues of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, and presentation of actual serious accident cases.
He emphasized, "The Serious Accident Punishment Act not only strengthens the punishment level to a minimum of one year imprisonment but also allows punishment of management officials and imposes punitive damages liability on corporations," adding, "Proactive corporate-level responses are necessary."
