Gokseong, Ranked No.1 in Resident Happiness, Embracing the Earnest Desire to Continue a 100-Year Legacy
Sustainable Gokseong Toward a 100-Year Future
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Yu Geun-gi, the governor of Gokseong County, Jeollanam-do, announced on November 23rd during the 2nd regular session of the Gokseong County Council’s policy speech the achievements of the county administration in 2021 and the direction for next year’s county administration.
Governor Yu cited the representative achievements as ▲ the opening of the youth career experience platform
Based on these achievements, Governor Yu stated that in 2022, he will enhance the completeness of policies promised to residents and strengthen region-specific hubs to realize a sustainable Gokseong for the next 100 years and a happy community growing together.
To this end, first, he will strengthen specialized strategies to drive regional growth by area.
The Gokseong-eup area is planned to be developed into a complex central hub combining administrative, cultural, tourism, and residential functions as a stay-type space where people gather and stay.
The Okgwa area is envisioned as a hub for job creation and economic growth through fostering future strategic industries.
The Seokgok area will enhance urban functions as an ecological tourism hub embracing nature and sentiment.
Second, the Gokseong-style happy learning community will be expanded and spread.
Centered on the Future Education Foundation, the learning ecosystem connecting Kkumnolja School, Kkumkium Maru, and lifelong education will be completed. The Gokseong-style career and academic advancement system, creative education in nature, and village education communities will also be strengthened.
Third, agricultural competitiveness will be reinforced and sustainable future strategic agriculture fostered.
Gokseong taro and Gokseong premium melon, boasting the nation’s largest scale, will be developed as high-income crops linked to the 6th industrialization strategy.
Additionally, cherries and blueberries will be nurtured as other representative county agricultural products.
Along with this, future scientific farming will be prepared through breeding new varieties of rice and strawberries.
Fourth, an integrated welfare system of safety, customization, and care will be strengthened to realize welfare without exclusion.
Public welfare services will be enhanced, including the construction of the ‘Bandabi Sports Center’ for disabled education, rehabilitation, and sports facilities, installation of convenience facilities for the disabled in 11 towns and townships, AI-IoT-based non-face-to-face health management projects for the elderly, and training of epidemiological investigators.
Fifth, new tourism revival will be led by establishing tourism and cultural resource hubs.
The Rose Park in the Seomjingang Train Village, a representative tourist site, will be expanded to the nation’s highest level. The Seomjingang Fairy Tale Garden will provide attractions by creating flower beds and resting areas.
Ecological cultural tourism hub projects will be promoted along the Seomjingang and Boseong Rivers to create travel destinations where visitors can stay longer.
Along with this, systematic preservation of cultural heritage will be led through projects such as the Gokseong History and Culture Center construction, Peace Pilgrimage Trail development, restoration of the old market cultural space in Ip-myeon Jukgok, and the national treasure promotion of the Taean Temple Jeokinseonsa Pagoda.
Sixth, the future value of the region will be enhanced through systematic discovery of environmental resources.
The nationally designated wetland, Chimshil Wetland, and the ecological axis of Dongak Mountain will be systematically restored, and a climate change response plan will be established. Leading forest management complexes will be created, and county-owned forest expansion projects will be promoted.
Along with this, as the area has been designated as a population decline region, a population vitality plan will be established, and the Gokseong Local Job Center will be operated to respond more strongly to the risk of population extinction.
To this end, new policy projects that young people would want to live in will be continuously discovered and promoted.
Governor Yu said, “We have created new trends in education, youth, culture, festivals, and tourism, which have become differentiated assets unique to our Gokseong. Together with all public officials, we will make 2022 a year of higher leaps toward a happy Gokseong for our residents.”
Meanwhile, Gokseong County submitted a 2022 main budget of 457.6 billion won to the council, an increase of 12 billion won compared to this year. Going forward, based on fiscal soundness, strategic policies of selection and concentration will be pursued.
