Fraud of 130 Million Won Against 7 Insurance Companies
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 14th that they have booked 61 members of an insurance fraud ring on charges of deliberately colliding with public transportation vehicles (buses, taxis, etc.) while driving to cause accidents and then fraudulently claiming insurance money, violating the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud. Among them, five main perpetrators, including Mr. A, have been arrested.
Mr. A and others are accused of deliberately causing accidents a total of 17 times from June 2020 to January this year in the eastern region of Jeonnam, pocketing 130 million won in insurance money.
They recruited drivers of the accident vehicles and passengers for buses, intentionally caused accidents such as rear-ending buses while driving rental cars, and the accomplices were hospitalized together, then distributed the settlement money they received.
It was confirmed that Mr. A and others involved their seniors and juniors in the eastern region by promising to pay them part-time wages to participate in the crime.
In addition, Mr. A was found to have driven a car without a driver's license several times over four occasions, covering dozens of kilometers.
A Jeonnam police official said, "We will apply a zero-tolerance policy toward insurance fraudsters, conduct investigations under detention, and take strong and strict measures such as recovering the full amount of damages."
