The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on that day, 2,104 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total cumulative cases to 362,639.
The number of new cases decreased by 20 compared to the previous day (2,124), but has remained in the 2,100 range for three consecutive days since the 28th (2,111). It has been 28 days since the last Friday (Saturday announcement) when new cases exceeded 2,000, which was on the 2nd (2,247).
Among the new cases on that day, 2,089 were locally transmitted and 15 were imported. Looking at the new cases reported daily over the past week from the 24th to that day, the numbers were 1,422 → 1,190 → 1,265 → 1,952 → 2,111 → 2,124 → 2,104. The daily average number of cases is 1,738.
By region, the new locally transmitted cases were 713 in Gyeonggi, 704 in Seoul, and 122 in Incheon, with the metropolitan area accounting for 1,539 cases or 73.7%. Non-metropolitan areas reported 550 cases or 26.3%, including 173 in Gyeongnam, 89 in Daegu, 56 in Chungnam, 46 in Chungbuk, 45 in Busan, 40 in Gyeongbuk, 26 in Jeonbuk, 25 in Gangwon, 15 in Gwangju, 12 in Jeonnam, 9 in Jeju, 7 in Daejeon, 4 in Sejong, and 3 in Ulsan. The sharp increase in cases in Gyeongnam was due to a cluster infection in the psychiatric ward of a hospital located in Changwon, where a total of 121 cases had been confirmed as of the previous day. 88% of the confirmed cases were breakthrough infections.
The number of imported cases was 15, about half of the previous day's (30). By country, the United States had the highest number with 5 cases, followed by China with 2, the Philippines with 2, and Myanmar, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Morocco each with 1 case.
Combining local and imported cases (excluding quarantine), the metropolitan area reported 1,548 cases: 719 in Gyeonggi, 706 in Seoul, and 123 in Incheon. Cases were reported in all 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
The number of deaths increased by 13 from the previous day, reaching a cumulative total of 2,830. The domestic average fatality rate is 0.78%.
Recently, as the transition to 'With Corona' approaches, cases of cluster infections in schools and hospitals are increasing. With Halloween Day on the 31st approaching, the speed of transmission may accelerate further through various events and gatherings.
