[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] As the spread of COVID-19 continues in South Korea, a total of 1,726 new confirmed cases were recorded nationwide from midnight to 6 p.m. on the 28th.
This is 50 more than the 1,676 cases recorded at the same time the previous day, and 511 more compared to 1,215 cases on the Thursday a week ago (October 21). Looking at the regions where confirmed cases were reported on this day, the Seoul metropolitan area accounted for 1,344 cases (77.9%), and non-metropolitan areas accounted for 382 cases (22.1%).
By city and province, there were 641 cases in Seoul, 577 in Gyeonggi, 126 in Incheon, 115 in Daegu, 47 in Chungnam, 42 in Busan, 40 in Gyeongbuk, 34 in Chungbuk, 31 in Gyeongnam, 30 in Jeonbuk, 17 in Gangwon, 11 in Jeonnam, 5 in Daejeon, 4 each in Gwangju and Jeju, and 2 in Ulsan. Among the 17 cities and provinces nationwide, Sejong has not yet reported any confirmed cases.
Since there is still time left until midnight when the tally is finalized, the number of new confirmed cases announced as of 0 a.m. on the 29th is expected to increase further, likely recording around 2,100 cases similar to the previous day. On the previous day, 435 cases were added after 6 p.m., closing with a final count of 2,111 cases.
