Naju-si Opens Korea Electrical Equipment Testing Institute in Innovation Industrial Complex

[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 26th that it held the opening ceremony of the Korea Electrical Equipment Testing Institute at the Naju Innovation Industrial Complex.

The institute was established in the Naju Innovation Industrial Complex with a total investment of 20.4 billion KRW, including 10 billion KRW from the national government, 6.9 billion KRW from provincial and city funds, and 3.5 billion KRW from private contributions (Korea Electrical Industry Promotion Association and Electrical Research Institute), as part of the government’s national project “Establishment of a Research Foundation for High-Efficiency Power Equipment Reliability.”

This facility supports resident companies in the Energy Valley by resolving testing backlogs and aiding technology development through the establishment of demonstration and reference (preliminary) testing infrastructure for distribution-level (22.9kV) power equipment.

A total of 23 types of testing equipment have been installed to conduct tests such as insulation and environmental characteristics, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and reliability evaluation, including a high-voltage testing building and an EMC (Electro Magnetic Compatibility) testing building.

The institute is expected to play a significant role in resolving difficulties faced by Energy Valley resident companies by providing one-stop service support for power equipment product certification testing, thereby facilitating new product commercialization and securing export competitiveness in the global market.

Additionally, through industry-academia-research cooperation systems involving Jeollanam-do, Naju City, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and other energy public enterprises, the institute plans to actively discover new and follow-up projects to improve research and development, demonstration, and testing environments for power equipment companies.

About 50 people attended the opening ceremony, including Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do; Shin Jeong-hoon, Member of the National Assembly; Kang In-gyu, Mayor of Naju; Joo Young-jin, Director of Industrial Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; Jung Seung-il, President of KEPCO; Myung Sung-ho, Director of the Electrical Research Institute; and Jang Se-chang, Honorary Chairman of the Korea Electrical Industry Promotion Association.

Mayor Kang In-gyu said, “The institute will support the stable growth of small and medium-sized power equipment companies in Energy Valley by enhancing their technological capabilities and export competitiveness. Going forward, we will unite the capabilities of the government, Jeollanam-do, KEPCO, and other energy public enterprises and industry-academia-research institutions to create a global new energy industry ecosystem in Naju.”
