Sanggyun Kim, Secretary General of Sarangui Yeolmae, Receives 'Proud Jeonnam Award'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Sang-gyun, Secretary General of the Community Chest of Korea (Chairman Cho Heung-sik), was selected as the 2021 recipient of the ‘Proud Jeonnam Person Award’ in the social service category.


According to Jeonnam Community Chest on the 26th, Kim received a commendation from Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeollanam-do at the 25th ‘Jeollanam-do Residents' Day’ ceremony held the day before.


Secretary General Kim was recognized for his contributions to spreading and revitalizing the culture of sharing in Jeonnam and overcoming regional crises caused by disasters.


The ‘Proud Jeonnam Person Award,’ hosted by Jeollanam-do, is given annually to residents and expatriates who have contributed to the development of the provincial administration and elevated the pride and honor of Jeonnam people. It is awarded in six categories: economy, tourism, culture, sports, social service, and others, during the Residents' Day ceremony.


Secretary General Kim said, “I am honored to receive the ‘Proud Jeonnam Person Award,’ the highest distinction in Jeonnam. I will live up to the expectations of the residents by fulfilling my role as Secretary General of the Community Chest of Korea, striving to resolve various social issues through sharing and to overcome the difficulties caused by COVID-19 together through sharing.”


Meanwhile, Secretary General Kim Sang-gyun began his career in 2006 as the head of the Jeonnam Community Chest office and served as the head of regional offices in Jeonbuk and Gwangju. From 2018 to January 2021, he served as the head of the Jeonnam Community Chest office, contributing to the development of regional welfare and the spread of a culture of sharing.


In January this year, he was appointed as the first Secretary General of the Community Chest of Korea who started as an employee, and has been working to eliminate welfare disparities by region and promote balanced regional welfare development.


Through these efforts, he supported nighttime care projects for low-income children in Jeonnam, welfare improvement projects in Jeonnam’s island and remote areas, and in July, contributed to overcoming regional crises by providing emergency support for flood-affected areas in Jeonnam and supplying wallpaper to low-income households with poor housing conditions.


Born in Haenam, Jeonnam, he graduated from the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Chosun University College of Law, earned a master's degree in social welfare from Gwangju University, and completed a doctorate in social welfare at Chosun University.


Since May 2006, he has been connected with the Community Chest of Korea, working quietly for 15 years for neighbors in need and socially vulnerable groups based on his sincerity and diligence as a former finance professional. In February 2021, he was inaugurated as Secretary General of the Community Chest of Korea and is doing his best with the staff to overcome the social disaster of COVID-19.
