[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] With the domestic launch of BMW's flagship pure electric model, the iX, just a month away, a new wave is expected in the electric vehicle market.
Until now, the domestic electric vehicle market has been dominated by affordable models focused on price and driving range, leaving no options for a premium mobility experience beyond simple electrified transportation.
The BMW iX is the first flagship electric vehicle model to officially open the luxury electric car segment in the domestic market. Thanks to its next-level driving sensation, luxurious interior and exterior design, and advanced user interface, it is expected to set the standard in this market.
First, the exterior features extremely slim LED headlights and rear lights, and a vertical kidney grille, harmonizing to fully express BMW's unique sporty charm. The interior offers an open sense of space, providing a lounge-like experience. The absence of a center tunnel across the interior allows all second-row passengers generous legroom.
The body incorporates BMW Group's cutting-edge design technology. The BMW iX is the first in its class of pure electric models to apply an aluminum space frame structure, and the body shell uses high-performance thermoplastic resin, high-strength steel, and aluminum.
The side frame, rain channel, roof frame, cowl panel, and rear window frame of the body are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), forming a 'Carbon Cage.' This is a key element in creating the safety concept of the passenger compartment and enhances the vehicle's agility during driving through weight optimization.
Additionally, the BMW iX is the first to be equipped with the next-generation infotainment system, the 8th generation BMW iDrive.
