[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics' next-generation flagship smartphone, the 'Galaxy S22 Ultra,' expected to be released early next year, is anticipated to offer 45-watt (W) fast charging.
On the 25th (local time), IT specialist media 91mobiles and others reported, citing famous IT tipster Ice Universe, that Samsung will raise the maximum charging speed of the S22 Ultra to 45W.
According to Ice Universe, the S22 Ultra is expected to provide 45W fast charging along with a large-capacity 5000 milliampere-hour (mAh) battery. If so, the S22 Ultra will be able to charge from 0% battery to 80% in just 35 minutes. However, it was added that chargers supporting 45W are likely to be sold separately.
Previously, concerns were raised that if the maximum charging speed of the S22 remained at 25W, it could be a weakness in the Android market share competition against Chinese companies. Currently, Chinese manufacturers aggressively offer fast charging technology with 45W or higher, enabling full charge in about 30 minutes. The Xiaomi smartphone 'Xiaomi 11T Pro,' released last month, supports wired charging at a maximum speed of 120W. The recently released 'iPhone 13 Pro Max' provides fast charging up to 27W.
On the other hand, Samsung has applied 25W charging to its flagship models, including the S21 series. Although 45W fast charging was introduced in the 'Galaxy S20 Ultra' and 'Galaxy Note10 Plus,' the actual charging speed showed little difference when using a 25W adapter.
The S22 series is expected to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 898 and Samsung's Exynos 2200 chipsets as application processors (AP). The top model, S22 Ultra, will support a 6.8-inch 2K AMOLED panel with up to 1800 nits brightness and is expected to be equipped with a rear triple camera, including a 108-megapixel main camera.
There were once expectations that the S22 series would be released early by the end of this year. However, the release timing was reportedly delayed as the third-generation foldable phone unveiled at the second half unpack event recorded better-than-expected results. Samsung, which released the S21 series early in January this year, is expected to launch the S22 series later, in February next year.
