[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Doo-seok) has been installing anti-slip safety handrails in local senior centers since last month.
According to the county on the 25th, the safety handrails are being installed on the walls near the entrance doors and inside the restrooms of the senior centers. In the case of the entrance doors, safety accidents can occur during the process of putting on or taking off shoes.
The restrooms require special attention as water remaining on the floor can cause serious injuries.
The safety handrails being installed by the county have a silicone surface, making them non-slip even when touched with wet hands.
They also have a phosphorescent function, making them easily visible even in dark surroundings.
Kim, a resident who recently used the Baekgye 2-ri senior center where the handrails were installed, said, “I was always cautious when entering the senior center due to back pain, but now that the safety handrails are installed, I feel much more at ease.”
Governor Yoo Doo-seok said, “To ensure that the village elders can spend a safe and healthy old age, we will complete the installation of safety handrails in all senior centers in the region by the end of this month.”
Meanwhile, the county is supporting the improvement of convenience for elderly residents by supplying air conditioners, dishwashers, massage devices, and electronic appliances to senior centers.
