National Firefighting Skills Competition Overall Victory... Awarded the President's Prize
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) has proven its top-level disaster response capabilities.
Jeonnam Fire announced on the 25th that it won the overall championship and received the Presidential Award at the ‘34th National Firefighting Skills Competition,’ which can be called the Olympics of firefighters nationwide.
The Firefighting Skills Competition is a contest where firefighters representing the nation demonstrate their skills in 5 events across 4 fields to improve disaster response techniques, enhance on-site response capabilities through physical training, and promote information exchange and friendship between cities and provinces.
This year’s competition was held for 7 days from the 12th to the 20th, hosted by the National Fire Agency, at Gongju Central Fire Academy (fire, rescue, strongest) and Sejong Convention Center (emergency medical services), where 361 top firefighters representing each city and province competed.
Jeonnam Fire Headquarters selected representative athletes in 5 events (fire suppression tactics, speed water discharge, rescue tactics, emergency medical tactics, strongest firefighter) through its own competition in June and strengthened their determination for first place at the national competition through a send-off ceremony.
The 18-member Jeonnam representative team underwent systematic and intensive training for 4 months, improved their skills through internal competitions, and made thorough preparations for the competition.
As a result, they achieved top rankings in each event and accomplished the great feat of winning the overall championship (national first place).
The firefighting services most directly provided to residents in critical moments are fire, rescue, and emergency medical services.
In that sense, Jeonnam Fire’s nationwide domination at this National Firefighting Skills Competition was a moment that proved Jeonnam Fire’s disaster site response capabilities are the best in the country.
Chief Ma Jaeyoon of the Fire Headquarters praised the efforts of the representative team and related personnel who elevated Jeonnam’s honor with the overall championship and said, “Please continue to strive to develop advanced firefighting technologies and maintain relentless training so that you can provide residents with superior firefighting services ahead of others.”
