[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Hong Jun-pyo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, stated on the 23rd, "We should not choose a bomb candidate who is shackled by corruption allegations under the Democratic Party regime when we have a prepared and clean candidate who can definitely win," adding, "There is no reason to invite the risk of choosing a person with a large 'candidate risk' and putting the entire presidential election in jeopardy."

At a press conference held at his presidential campaign office that day, Hong said, "To defeat the immoral and corrupt Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung, our party must field a clean candidate," and argued, "We cannot afford to miss the rare opportunity for regime change with a candidate suspected of the so-called 'headquarters chief corruption,' including his wife and mother-in-law."

He said, "The Democratic Party's peculiar attack only on former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl is intended to create a presidential election structure among corrupt candidates to orchestrate an 'Lee Jae-myung distraction election,'" adding, "Lee Jae-myung and Yoon Seok-youl have a so-called hostile symbiotic relationship."

Hong stated, "He may not be able to endure until the final presidential election due to various scandals and corruption, and even if he wins the election, normal state administration will be impossible," and claimed, "Only a candidate without corruption, with abundant state administration capability, and political skills can overcome such Democratic Party schemes and guarantee victory in the presidential election."

Meanwhile, regarding former Prosecutor General Yoon's remarks seeming to defend former President Jeon Du-hwan and the subsequent apology controversy, Hong said, "Yoon is the person who nullified our party's 30 years of efforts to embrace Honam," and added, "He mocked the people again in the process of managing that. It is a clear violation."
