[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, criticized Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "If the Daejang-dong corruption is not completely eradicated, the maggots of that corruption will eventually eat away at the Republic of Korea."
On the 23rd, Yoon said on his Facebook, "A presidential election with a ruling party candidate facing clear criminal charges is a national disaster and a misfortune for the people," and added, "We must conduct a 'Daejang-dong special prosecution' as soon as possible."
He continued, "It is truly regrettable that the current prosecution has fallen into the role of a bodyguard for a specific politician. There were limits as Prosecutor General, but I will accomplish this as president," he emphasized.
Regarding the prosecution indicting Yoo Dong-gyu, the former Planning Director of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation and the 'key man' in Daejang-dong, excluding the charge of breach of trust, Yoon said, "The biggest problem is that it becomes impossible to punish the crimes of candidate Lee Jae-myung."
He further claimed, "The Daejang-dong gate is a crime of plundering public property designed by candidate Lee when he was mayor of Seongnam and executed by the action leader Yoo Dong-gyu. All of this originated from candidate Lee and Yoo Dong-gyu removing the 'excess profit recovery clause' that the staff wanted to include in the contract."
He also urged, "Another problem implied by the indictment of Yoo Dong-gyu excluding the breach of trust charge is that the criminal proceeds that should be returned to the citizens of Seongnam cannot be recovered. The prosecution must immediately take 'preservation measures' for the criminal proceeds and investigate candidate Lee and Yoo Dong-gyu for breach of trust charges to ensure complete recovery."
