[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] BNK Financial Group announced on the 22nd that it held the inaugural ceremony of the 'Southeast Region ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) Forum' at the Paradise Hotel in Busan, together with the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Gyeongnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council.
BNK and the regional chambers of commerce organized this event to unite efforts for ESG transition in the Southeast region, proactively respond to climate change, and discuss ways to develop a sustainable regional economy.
The event proceeded with a welcome address by Kim Ji-wan, Chairman of BNK Financial Group, followed by congratulatory speeches from Han Jeong-ae, Minister of Environment, Lee Young-hwal, Executive Vice Chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lee Yoon-cheol, Chairman of the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Koo Ja-cheon, Chairman of the Gyeongnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council.
In his welcome speech, Chairman Kim said, "I am very honored that the Southeast Region ESG Forum, which brings together local businesspeople and financial institutions, has been established," and added, "We will actively take the lead in deriving win-win cooperation measures for local companies going forward."
Minister of Environment Han Jeong-ae stated via video, "Since manufacturing is the main industry in the Southeast region, considerable efforts are needed to achieve carbon neutrality," and added, "I hope that this forum will serve as a foundation for companies and finance to join hands and establish the region as a leading area in ESG management."
In the keynote lecture that followed, Yoon Soon-jin, Chairman of the Carbon Neutrality Committee, explained the government's 2050 carbon neutrality scenario and the 2030 national greenhouse gas reduction targets, emphasizing that members of our society must unite with one heart and wisdom to move forward.
Professor Cho Yong-eon of Dong-A University and Jung Young-doo, President of BNK Economic Research Institute, gave presentations on the topics of 'Southeast Region's Response Strategies to Climate Change' and 'ESG Transition of Southeast Region Companies and the Role of Regional Finance,' respectively.
A BNK Financial Group official said, "We will continuously develop the Southeast Region ESG Forum to raise awareness of the importance of ESG management among local businesspeople and to serve as a guide providing related information on ESG."
