[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The animated film "Taeil," depicting the life of labor activist Jeon Tae-il, will be released on December 1.
On the 21st, Myeong Film announced this news. The movie tells the story of the young Jeon Tae-il, who fought passionately in 1970 at Pyeonghwa Market to change unfair labor conditions. Actors Jang Dong-yoon, Yeom Hye-ran, Jin Seon-kyu, Kwon Hae-hyo, Park Cheol-min, and Tae In-ho lend their voices to the film. The animation is said to realistically and lyrically capture the living spaces and people of that time with a familiar art style.
The released poster draws attention with the steadfast image of young Jeon Tae-il holding the Labor Standards Act close to his chest. The warm lights surrounding him against the backdrop of Pyeonghwa Market, where Jeon Tae-il worked, evoke the emotions of the young man who dreamed of a world where everyone lives together.
As Myeong Film's second feature-length animation, following the highest-grossing Korean animation "Leafie, A Hen into the Wild," over 10,000 citizens participated in crowdfunding through Kakao Together, successfully raising over 100 million won from the production stage. From the "Taeil 1970 Production Committee" to supporters from various sectors of local civil societies in Gwangju, Daegu, Busan, Jeju, and other regions, many people united their efforts.
"Taeil" premiered earlier this month as the world premiere at the 26th Busan International Film Festival.
