Bando Construction announced on the 21st that, following the purchase of a 10,000-pyeong precast concrete (PC) factory site in Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi-do last June, it has recently secured a 4,000-pyeong yard site near the location.
The site is currently being remodeled into a PC factory, and with the introduction of the latest equipment for producing Hollow Core Slabs (HCS), the company plans to start prototype production in the first half of 2022 and then proceed to mass production of PC components. Initially, Bando Construction will supply PC quantities to its own apartment sites, and once the production system stabilizes, it will begin external sales.
The PC method involves assembling and installing concrete components such as columns, beams, and slabs, which are precast in a factory, at the construction site. Compared to on-site casting, this method reduces process and management points, lowers the possibility of cracks and leaks, ensuring higher safety, and allows for higher quality concrete production through prior manufacturing. It is also regarded as an eco-friendly construction method as it minimizes waste generation during construction.
Recently, the domestic PC market has expanded its application range from apartment parking lots and logistics centers to knowledge industry centers, semiconductor factories, and data centers. Some construction companies are focusing on developing methods and technologies to broaden the scope of PC method applications. Considering the low application rates of PC methods in advanced countries such as the United States and Europe, the growth potential of the domestic PC market is expected to be very high.
Bando Construction plans to primarily produce 30,000㎥ of HCS annually at the new PC factory. HCS is a concrete slab made by applying prestress to high-strength concrete, advantageous for lightweight structures and long-span construction sites with wide areas and fewer columns. It is known as a component that can be applied to various systems such as ventilation and heating.
Park Hyun-il, CEO of Bando Construction, stated, "Based on the experience and know-how gained from leading the PC business in the past, we plan to expand the business. We will not only upgrade construction technology to the next level but also take a step further in introducing eco-friendly construction methods that minimize construction waste generation."
