First Implementation in Deokgyo District, Pipeline Installation in Seokdae District
Smartization of Sewage Treatment Process... Expected Improvement in Water Quality
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has secured 40.828 billion KRW in national and other project funds for four public sewage projects next year.
According to Sancheong-gun on the 18th, this amount is comparable to the 41.791 billion KRW secured for sewage projects over three years from 2018 to 2020.
The sewage projects Sancheong-gun plans to pursue next year include major projects such as ▲ Mogo District (7.1 billion KRW) ▲ Sangbeop District (4.5 billion KRW) ▲ Seokdae District (12.6 billion KRW) ▲ Seokdae District Public Sewage Pipeline (13.4 billion KRW) ▲ Sicheon District (2.4 billion KRW) ▲ Noeun District (5.4 billion KRW) ▲ Deokgyo District (13.5 billion KRW) ▲ Daepo District (7.4 billion KRW) ▲ Wolpyeong District (6.5 billion KRW).
Additionally, projects such as ▲ Sewage Pipeline Maintenance ▲ Rural Village Sewage Maintenance ▲ Sewage Treatment Plant Expansion ▲ Establishment of Public Sewage Treatment Facilities in Myeon Units ▲ Small-scale Sewage Treatment Facility Maintenance and Management will be implemented.
Among these, the new projects to expand public sewage in Deokgyo, Daepo, and Wolpyeong Districts, which began construction in 2022 and are scheduled for completion in 2024, are expected to increase the current daily treatment capacity from about 190 tons to 500 tons.
The county has continuously explained the validity and necessity of these projects to central government agencies such as the Ministry of Environment, Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, and Ministry of Strategy and Finance to secure next year’s sewage project funds. This successful funding is evaluated as the result of a full-scale effort to secure the budget.
Currently, Sancheong-gun has been conducting public sewage installation projects in six districts, including Sincheon and Seokdae Districts, since 2018.
Through these projects, the county is promoting improvements in sewage facilities such as maintenance of aging sewage pipelines, expansion of public sewage treatment plants, and the establishment of a smart sewage management system based on information and communication technology.
Since February 2020, Sancheong-gun has been implementing the “Sancheong-gun Water Supply and Sewage Maintenance Master Plan (Revised),” which requires a total of 506.1 billion KRW by 2035, having received final approval from the Ministry of Environment.
The county expects that once the water supply maintenance projects are completed, the coverage rate for water supply and sewage will exceed 90%.
According to the plan, through facility expansion and extension, the water supply coverage rate is expected to improve to 98.3%, and the sewage treatment coverage rate to 92.1%.
A county official stated, “With maintenance of aging sewage pipelines and facility management, as well as the establishment of a smart sewage management system, efficient water quality management will be possible,” adding, “We will do our best to secure additional national funds for ongoing projects that require more budget, as well as to ensure smooth project implementation.”
