[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Korea Institute of Energy Technology (President Yoon Eui-jun·KENTECH) announced on the 18th that it has confirmed the appointment of Professor Yu Ryong, a world-renowned scholar in the field of nanoporosity carbon materials, as a distinguished professor.
Professor Yu Ryong earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University and was appointed at KAIST in 1986. Recognized for his outstanding research achievements, he has been serving as a KAIST distinguished professor since 2008.
Professor Yu’s representative research achievements include the synthesis of mesoporous carbon and the design of mesoporous zeolite catalytic materials. He has published approximately 300 papers related to his research field, which have been cited over 45,000 times in academic journals.
Since 2012, he has been serving as the director of the Nano Materials and Chemical Reaction Research Division at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS), leading Korea’s research in the nanotechnology field.
In particular, Professor Yu was the first Korean researcher selected by Clarivate Analytics in 2014 as a ‘Top 0.01% Highly Cited Researcher’ and has been recognized worldwide as a Nobel Class scholar, having been named a strong candidate for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He continues to be mentioned as a Nobel Prize candidate.
