Securing Employee Email Addresses Underway
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] On the morning of the 18th, the prosecution conducted an additional search and seizure at Seongnam City Hall in Gyeonggi Province.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office dedicated investigation team (led by Chief Prosecutor Kim Tae-hoon) sent investigators to Seongnam around 9:30 a.m. to secure employees' email records from the Information and Communications Division. It is known that they aimed to obtain materials that were not secured during the first search and seizure. The investigation team plans to summon and interrogate public officials who were in the work reporting line at the time as soon as they analyze the materials obtained from the first and second searches.
Earlier, on the 15th, the investigation team dispatched 22 personnel to Seongnam to secure necessary documents from departments related to the Daejang-dong development project, including the Urban Housing Bureau, Education, Culture and Sports Bureau, Cultural City Project Group, and Information and Communications Division. However, criticism of a "belated investigation" arose as the search and seizure of Seongnam City, which holds the licensing authority for the Daejang-dong development project, was conducted only after more than two weeks since the investigation began.
During the first search and seizure, criticism of inadequate investigation was raised because the mayor's office and secretariat were excluded from the search targets, despite Lee Jae-myung, then mayor of Seongnam and now governor of Gyeonggi Province, being accused. It is also reported that the mayor's office and secretariat were not included in the search targets this time.
