[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 15th that the Hwangmaesan County Park Barrier-Free Sharing Path project was selected for the ‘2022 Green Fund Public Contest Project’ hosted by the Korea Forest Welfare Institute, and the Hwangmaesan Forest Camping Site project was selected for the ‘2022 Forest Camping Site Creation Project’ hosted by the Korea Forest Service.

With this selection, a budget of 980 million KRW (588 million KRW from the Green Fund, 392 million KRW from the county) will be used to create a 1.2 km barrier-free sharing path in Hwangmaesan County Park, and a budget of 1.9 billion KRW (950 million KRW national funds, 285 million KRW provincial funds, 665 million KRW county funds) will be used to build 30 tent sites, 17 caravan sites, and one management office.

Hwangmaesan County Park is a representative tourist destination in Hapcheon visited by more than 700,000 residents and tourists annually, but due to its high altitude, some hiking trails within the park were difficult for people with disabilities or the elderly to use. Additionally, due to its high popularity, it was not easy to make reservations for the camping site.

Accordingly, Hapcheon-gun plans to create a deck path as part of the barrier-free sharing path project to allow easy access and comfortable use for transportation-vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and the elderly, and plans to offer electric cart experiences.

The vast 210,000㎡ site that can be comfortably experienced is a unique advantage of Hwangmaesan County Park. Through the forest camping site project, a total of 47 additional sites will be opened to allow more visitors to enjoy the nature of Hwangmaesan.

A county official stated, “It is unacceptable in the 21st century that some cannot share the beauty of Hwangmaesan due to accessibility difficulties,” and added, “We will enjoy the great nature of Hwangmaesan together with transportation-vulnerable groups.”
