[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are repeatedly gaining recognition for their brand value in the world's largest home appliance market, the United States.
According to the industry on the 25th, Samsung Electronics recently ranked first in the home appliance category of the 'Consumer Satisfaction Study 2020-2021 for the Home Appliance and Electronics Industry' announced by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI).
ACSI evaluates consumer satisfaction with the quality of products and services provided by over 400 companies across 47 industries active in the U.S. market every year. This study was conducted by interviewing 7,960 local consumers from July last year to June this year.
Samsung Electronics' home appliances, including washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, and ranges/ovens, scored 80 points, 3% higher than last year, securing first place. Samsung Electronics is the only company in the home appliance sector to have improved consumer satisfaction. Its ranking also rose significantly from 6th place last year.
LG Electronics ranked second overall in this category with 79 points. Previously, LG Electronics took first place in this category for two consecutive years in 2019 (82 points) and 2020 (80 points), showing a close competition among domestic companies for the top spot.
In July, Samsung Electronics maintained its top position for the third consecutive year by being selected as the number one in the most categories in the 2021 Home Appliance Consumer Satisfaction Evaluation by JD Power, a leading U.S. market research firm.
In this evaluation, Samsung Electronics ranked first in 9 out of 11 categories, including dryers, drum washing machines, fully automatic washing machines, cooktops, dishwashers, French door refrigerators, and side-by-side refrigerators.
LG Electronics ranked first in two categories: freestanding ranges and conventional refrigerators. Additionally, it ranked high in other categories such as dishwashers, French door refrigerators, side-by-side refrigerators, drum washing machines, fully automatic washing machines, cooktops, and wall ovens.
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics also demonstrated their competitiveness by sweeping major awards at the international design competition 'IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards) 2021,' hosted by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
At the 41st edition of this awards ceremony, LG Electronics' wireless private screen LG StanbyMe received the highest honor, the Gold Award. Four products ? Gallery Stand, LG Sound Bar Eclair, LG WashTower, and LG PuriCare 360˚ Air Purifier Alpha ? won Bronze Awards.
Additionally, five products including the LG Styler, LG CordZero A9S Objet Collection, LG PuriCare Dual Water Purifier, LG InstaView ThinQ Oven, and LG UltraGear Gaming Speaker received the main awards, totaling 10 awards for LG Electronics.
Among these, LG StanbyMe also won main awards at the German international design competitions 'iF Design Award 2021' and 'Red Dot Design Award 2021,' sweeping all three of the world's top design awards held this year.
Samsung Electronics also received a total of 48 awards at IDEA 2021, including 7 Silver Awards, 3 Bronze Awards, and 38 Finalists.
