[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A beauty salon in India was ordered to pay 300 million won in compensation after mistakenly cutting the hair of a hair product model.
On the 24th (local time), according to the BBC, a beauty salon in a luxury hotel in New Delhi, India, was ordered by the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) to compensate a female hair product model 20 million rupees (approximately 320 million won).
In 2018, the female model who visited the salon requested "to trim about 10cm from the ends of my hair," but the salon misunderstood and cut her hair short, leaving only 10cm of hair.
At the time, the woman had long hair and often worked as a model for hair-related product advertisements. However, the NCDRC pointed out that because the salon cut her hair short against her request, her advertising contract was terminated, causing significant losses.
In its order, the NCDRC stated, "As a result, she was unable to secure the expected advertising contract, her lifestyle completely changed, and her dream of becoming a top model was shattered."
It added, "She suffered serious mental shock and trauma, including loss of confidence due to the salon's negligence. Her hair was cut short, preventing her from performing scheduled work, and she even lost her job."
The NCDRC ordered compensation to be paid within 8 weeks, but the salon is appealing the order and reviewing the possibility of an appeal.
