BTS member Jungkook said in an interview with ABC News aired on the 24th (local time), "Receiving the special envoy appointment letter and doing news with the president in New York made me feel like time had stopped," expressing his thoughts.
Appointed as 'Special Presidential Envoys for Future Generations and Culture,' BTS attended the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment event held at the UN Headquarters in New York on the 20th, delivered a speech, and released a pre-recorded performance video of "Permission to Dance" on the UN stage.
While staying in New York to attend the UN event, BTS conducted a joint interview with President Moon Jae-in, saying, "It was a very meaningful and happy time, as it was perceived as a situation with hope and progress."
President Moon also praised BTS, saying, "It is much more effective than what the UN Secretary-General or I have said hundreds of times."
In this interview as well, BTS mentioned the importance of responding to climate change and vaccines to end COVID-19, as emphasized in their UN speech.
BTS member RM encouraged recycling waste separation, distinguishing single-use items, and using tumblers, saying that small differences can ultimately make a big difference.
J-Hope said that he missed performing the most during the COVID-19 pandemic and added, "As much as my heart is set on performing, I hope the situation improves soon, many people get vaccinated, and an environment where we can perform is created."
