Delivery of 6 Paintings and 2 Sculptures Instead of Taxes to Picasso Museum
Price Unknown... Scheduled for Exhibition at Picasso Museum Starting April Next Year
[Asia Economy International Desk Reporter] The heirs of Pablo Picasso, a master of modern art, paid eight of his works in lieu of taxes owed to the French authorities, major overseas news agencies reported on the 20th (local time).
At a press conference that day, Picasso's heirs announced that they had delivered six paintings and two sculptures to the state-run Picasso Museum in Paris.
The price of these works, paid in kind instead of inheritance tax imposed on Maya, Pablo Picasso's 86-year-old daughter, was not disclosed.
Among the works was "Don Jose Luis," painted by Picasso in 1895 depicting his father.
Also delivered to the museum was a male portrait Picasso left in 1971, two years before he passed away at the age of 91. These works are scheduled to be exhibited at the Picasso Museum starting April 2022.
Earlier, Bruno Le Maire, France's Minister of Finance, shared the news on his Twitter account, saying, "It is a national honor to welcome newly unveiled works by Picasso," and added, "These works will broaden and deepen our cultural heritage."
