[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] A test-taker has revealed a letter received from former President Lee Myung-bak, who is currently incarcerated in prison.
On the 13th, a post titled "A letter from former President Lee Myung-bak arrived" was uploaded on a test-taker community. The author, Mr. A, said, "I asked former President Lee Myung-bak to send me one signed sheet, and he actually sent it," and shared a photo.
The letter Mr. A received from the former president contained a message saying, "I hope your wishes come true. I will also pray to God." Below the date "September 10, 2021," there is a large signature of "Lee Myung-bak."
Later, Mr. A shared how to send a letter to the former president. He attached a link to the Ministry of Justice's online civil service and explained, "Go to the link, verify your identity, then register the recipient (inmate) by entering 'Anyang Prison, 2200, Lee Myung-bak,' then enter the internet letter menu, write the letter, and send it."
He added, "I think the reply came in about five days. If you want a reply, you need to separately write your address and postal code in the letter."
The story of receiving a letter from the former president was also known in June. At that time, a post from a graduate who received a reply from the former president was posted on 'Gopas,' a community used by Korea University students, attracting attention.
In the letter, the former president said, "Above all, it is very regrettable why this country has come to this. We see with our own eyes that it takes time to build up, but it only takes a moment to tear down."
In March, when a student sent a poster and letter from his presidential candidate days, the former president reportedly replied, "I have many shortcomings, but I believe I have lived my life diligently and honestly. I hope we can meet someday with bright smiles."
Meanwhile, former President Lee Myung-bak was sentenced to 17 years in prison last October for embezzlement of DAS funds and the Samsung bribery case. He was incarcerated at Dongbu Detention Center and was transferred to Anyang Prison last March.
