[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics has revealed the European pricing for its mid-range 5G smartphone, the ‘Galaxy A52s 5G,’ marking a full-scale push into the mid-to-low-end smartphone market in the second half of the year. The A52s 5G is an upgraded model with improved performance based on the 'Galaxy A52,' which was introduced earlier this year during the Galaxy A series Unpacked event.
On the 25th (local time), IT media outlet SamMobile reported that the European prices for the A52s 5G are 449 euros (approximately 620,000 KRW) for the 128GB model and 509 euros (approximately 700,000 KRW) for the 256GB model.
Samsung Electronics first unveiled the A52s 5G and its price for the UK market on the 17th, and has now disclosed pricing for the broader European market, officially starting sales. The A52s 5G can be purchased through Samsung’s online store and official retailers in Germany and other European countries, and it will be available in four colors: Awesome Black, Awesome Mint, Awesome Violet, and Awesome White.
The A52s 5G is the first Samsung smartphone to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G chipset, promising fast performance not only for gaming but also for everyday tasks. RAM options include 6GB and 8GB, with storage capacities of 128GB and 256GB available, and it also supports a microSD slot for expandable storage.
Additionally, the device is equipped with a 4500mAh battery supporting 25W fast charging and features a 120Hz refresh rate display. The camera setup includes a 34MP front camera and a quad-camera system on the rear, with a 64MP main camera. Other features include IP67-rated water and dust resistance and Bluetooth 5.0 support.
Due to semiconductor supply issues, the A52 was not released domestically in South Korea, but the A52s 5G is expected to be launched in the domestic market through the three major carriers?SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus?sometime after mid-next month. The A52 was Samsung’s first Galaxy A series product unveiled at a global Unpacked event in March. Although it has been sold in Europe and India since its release, it was not launched domestically due to semiconductor shortages.
As Samsung recently emphasized the ‘popularization of foldables’ by announcing a new foldable phone lineup, attention is focused on whether the company can solidify its position as the global smartphone market leader amid threats from mid-range products. According to market research firm Counterpoint Research, Samsung maintained the top spot in the global smartphone market in Q2 this year with an 18% market share, but the gap with second-place Xiaomi (16%) narrowed to just 2 percentage points. On a monthly basis, Xiaomi even topped the smartphone sales chart for the first time in June with a 17.1% market share, pushing Samsung to second place with 15.7%.
