[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, there has been a surge in home-cooked meals, leading to increased interest in sauces that allow for easy meal preparation.
Companies are expanding beyond traditional seasonings like gochujang, doenjang, and ssamjang, recently launching convenient products that offer a variety of flavors such as mala sauce and bibim sauce.
According to industry sources on the 21st, The Born Korea, a company specializing in dining franchises, introduced 'Baek Jong-won's All-Purpose Mala Sauce,' which is highly versatile for various dishes. This product is an all-purpose sauce developed to suit Korean tastes, combining a sharp and spicy mala flavor with Thai chili paste to enhance the texture. It can be used in a wide range of dishes to add mala flavor, such as fried rice, ramen, tteokbokki, and budaejjigae, allowing for easy preparation of unique mala dishes. Additionally, dipping chicken or nachos in it intensifies the mala flavor experience.
Notably, this product comes in a tube container, allowing users to squeeze out the desired amount conveniently, making it perfect not only for home use but also for outdoor camping.
Nongshim launched the 'Baehongdong All-Purpose Sauce,' riding on the popularity of Baehongdong Bibimmyeon. This product contains the sauce separately, which is made from pear and red chili dongchimi, giving it a spicy flavor. The Baehongdong All-Purpose Sauce can be enjoyed in various ways, including as a bibim sauce for bibimbap or hoe-deopbap, a stir-fry sauce for seafood and meat, or a dipping sauce for samgyeopsal and raw fish.
Samyang Foods introduced 'Buldak Matjang,' a product that combines the liquid sauce of Buldak Bokkeummyeon (Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen) with dongchimi extract and gochujang to reduce the intensity of spiciness while delivering a clean umami taste. This product can be used as a seasoning sauce for dishes like golbaengi muchim (spicy whelk salad), hoe-deopbap, and jaeyuk bokkeum (stir-fried pork), as well as a dipping sauce for pancakes.
Craft Heinz Korea launched the brand 'Bull’s Eye,' which specializes in BBQ sauces, and released two types of sauces. The 'Bull’s Eye Original BBQ Sauce' features a deep and rich smoky aroma, suitable for marinating meat or as a dipping sauce. It embodies the Texas style from the USA, the birthplace of BBQ sauce, adding authentic barbecue flavor to various dishes. Additionally, the 'Bull’s Eye New York Steakhouse BBQ Sauce' builds on the original sauce by adding tomato, garlic, and bell pepper to create a spicy aftertaste.
Food Culture Lab introduced 'Seoul Sisters Gochujang Hot Sauce,' tailored to Korean tastes. This product can be used as a seasoning sauce in simple dishes or as a dipping sauce for finished meals. It is a hot sauce primarily made from brown rice gochujang, incorporating domestic chili powder, fermented vinegar, dongchimi, and pear, making it well-suited to Korean palates. It is perfect as an all-purpose sauce for various Korean dishes such as tteokbokki, fried rice, jaeyuk bokkeum, and dakgalbi.
