Improving Livestock Rearing Environment for Safe Production and Supply of Livestock Products
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 5th that it will promote the designation project of animal welfare-type green livestock farms to produce and supply safe livestock products.
The animal welfare-type green livestock farm designation project is based on the 'Jeollanam-do Animal Welfare-type Green Livestock Promotion Ordinance,' which was first enacted nationwide in 2011. It has been promoted by Jeollanam-do since 2012 to minimize the occurrence of livestock infectious diseases such as highly pathogenic AI and foot-and-mouth disease caused by factory-style intensive farming, and to create a breeding environment suitable for livestock ecology to produce and supply safe livestock products.
Animal welfare-type green livestock farms are evaluated on 22 items including livestock breeding density, securing livestock exercise yards, and cleanliness of barns. Farms that receive a suitability judgment are designated as green livestock farms and can receive an annual farm operation fund of 2 million KRW.
Eligibility for application includes livestock farms that have received at least one of the following: eco-friendly livestock product certification, HACCP certification, clean livestock farm designation, or government-certified animal welfare livestock farm certification. Applications can be submitted at any time.
A city official stated, "We will continue to do our best to ensure that many livestock farms create barn facilities suitable for livestock breeding and environments necessary for livestock activities so that safe livestock products can be supplied."
