Hwang Sun-woo (18, Seoul Physical Education High School), who set a new Asian record in the men's 100m freestyle, will receive a reward of 10 million KRW from the Korea Swimming Federation. The Korea Swimming Federation announced on the 5th that it will present the reward to Hwang Sun-woo on the 11th at the Korea Sports Council meeting room on the 2nd floor of the Best Building in Songpa-gu, Seoul.

Hwang Sun-woo opened a new chapter for Korean swimming at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In the men's 100m freestyle semifinals, he set an Asian record and a world junior record (47.56 seconds), becoming the first Asian swimmer in 65 years since Atsushi Dani (Japan) at the 1956 Melbourne Games to advance to the Olympic final in this event. He also set a Korean record and a world junior record (1:44.62) in the 200m freestyle heats and advanced to the final.

The Korea Swimming Federation's reward regulations specify that rewards are given to athletes, coaches, and record setters who win medals while representing the national team in domestic and international swimming competitions hosted, organized, or recognized by the federation. The amount is determined by the federation president within the budget.

The Korea Swimming Federation previously awarded Park Tae-hwan 100 million KRW for winning gold in the men's 400m freestyle and silver in the 200m freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Park Tae-hwan gave all the money to the coaches who trained him. Since March last year, the federation has been awarding 1 million KRW to individual athletes and 2 million KRW to team events for setting Korean records.
