[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Hong Jun-pyo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, has decided to set up his presidential campaign office in the Yongsan Building in Yeouido, Seoul.
According to political circles on the 3rd, Hong recently leased two floors, the 6th and 8th floors, of the Yongsan Building for the purpose of establishing a "presidential campaign."
The Yongsan Building gained fame when former President Lee Myung-bak used it as his campaign office during the 2007 presidential primary. Like Hong, former President Lee also used two floors and was praised inside and outside the political circles for forming a so-called "mammoth-level campaign."
The Yongsan Building remains popular among candidates in the upcoming presidential election phase. Former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong, who is competing with Hong for the People Power Party's presidential nomination, has already set up his campaign on the 10th floor, and former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, who is running in the Democratic Party's presidential primary, is using two floors, the 11th and 13th floors.

Meanwhile, presidential candidates from the People Power Party are setting up their campaign bases in large numbers and are making thorough preparations ahead of the scheduled "presidential primary bus" departure at the end of August.
Former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung attended the "Open Camp" press room open day on the 2nd at the Daehwa Building next to the Yongsan Building. The Daehwa Building was also used as a presidential campaign office by former Presidents Kim Dae-jung and Park Geun-hye, and former President Lee Myung-bak used it as his main campaign office, making it known as an "election hotspot" along with the Yongsan Building.
Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min opened the "Hope 22 Office" early last year in the Taeheung Building near the National Assembly in Yeouido to prepare for the presidential election. The Taeheung Building was used as the headquarters of the Bareun Party, where Yoo previously served as the leader.
Lawmaker Kim Tae-ho also selected the Manhattan 21 Building in Yeouido as his campaign location, and former party leader Hwang Kyo-ahn took a place in the Woosung Building on the border of Yeouido. The Woosung Building was the party headquarters during Hwang's tenure.
Lawmaker Park Jin and Lawmaker Ha Tae-kyung are also looking for offices near Yeouido, and Lawmaker Yoon Hee-sook has announced plans to operate a "mobile campaign."
Meanwhile, former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, who is leading in the approval ratings, has attracted attention by opening his campaign office in the Ima Building near Gwanghwamun, outside Yeouido. This is interpreted as his intention not to be bound by the existing convention of setting up a campaign office in Yeouido.
