[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the morning of the 2nd, Goryeong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, held an unusual on-site executive meeting in front of the construction site of the movable weir (可動洑, a structure for controlling river water levels) along the Hoecheon River near the Morning Sports Park.
At the on-site executive meeting that day, County Governor Gwak Yong-hwan and about 30 executives, including park officials, attended and encouraged open discussions regarding the progress of the construction and the role of the weir after completion.
The purpose was to generate ideas on how the Hoecheon River area, where the movable weir is installed, can be developed into a premium waterfront space in the Daegaya-eup area, harmonizing with the surrounding Morning Sports Park, park golf course, and other facilities.
The movable weir currently under construction along the Hoecheon River is being built as part of the Daegaya Cultural Waterway (Hoecheon) maintenance project for embankment reinforcement and waterfront space creation, with a project budget of 25 billion KRW (15 billion KRW from national and provincial funds) by 2023.
County Governor Gwak Yong-hwan gave special instructions, saying, "The Hoecheon River area in Daegaya-eup, which currently provides the best leisure space for residents, should become a premium waterfront space representing Goryeong through the newly installed movable weir. I ask all public officials to take an interest and unite their efforts to promote this project."
