Provincial Assembly Member Jeon Gyeong-seon, New Start and Commitment as Chair of the City and Provincial Council Steering Committee Jeon Gyeong-seon, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-gyeong] Jeon Gyeong-seon, Chairperson of the Operations Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council (Democratic Party, Mokpo 5), has begun his term as the president of the Council of Chairpersons of Operations Committees of City and Provincial Councils in the Republic of Korea (hereafter, the Operations Committee Chairpersons' Council), pledging to complete true local autonomy.


According to the Jeonnam Provincial Council on the 2nd, Jeon Gyeong-seon, who was unanimously appointed as the first-ever president of the Operations Committee Chairpersons' Council from the Jeonnam Provincial Council, officially started his term on the 1st. The term lasts until June 30 of next year.


As his first agenda, Chairperson Jeon sent an inaugural address to the chairpersons of operations committees of metropolitan councils nationwide, expressing his determination to complete local autonomy and outlining the future operational policies of the council.


In his inaugural speech, Chairperson Jeon stated, “We will strive to address local autonomy issues such as revising enforcement ordinances in line with the enforcement of the Local Autonomy Act,” and urged, “Let all metropolitan council operations committee chairpersons work together to realize the spirit of the times, which is the completion of true local autonomy.”


He continued, “We will strengthen the council-level activities in preparation for the enforcement of the Local Autonomy Act so that the federal-level local autonomy promised by President Moon Jae-in can be completed within his presidential term,” and pledged, “We will do our best to create a new local autonomy, complete autonomy and decentralization, making a country where all citizens are happy.”


Meanwhile, the Operations Committee Chairpersons' Council is a working body of the Council of Chairpersons of City and Provincial Councils of the Republic of Korea, established to discuss joint understanding issues of city and provincial councils, gather opinions, deliberate on council operation issues and policy development, exchange information mutually, and discuss ways to develop local councils. It was first formed in 1997.
