[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 27th that he "warmly welcomes" the restoration of the inter-Korean communication hotline.
On the same day, Song said on his Facebook, "The inter-Korean communication line has been fully restored. It is refreshing news like the sound of a sudden shower on a parched land."
He added, "I read the Korean War Armistice Agreement again this morning. It is immediately clear that it is a provisional agreement likely to lead to a peace treaty," and "However, not a single word of this clause has been changed in 68 years."
He continued, "Efforts were made, but there was no progress. There is no way to relieve frustration even with a long sigh," and "Our incompetence, still bearing this shameful situation of being legally at war like a curse, strikes my heart."
Song emphasized, "We must immediately open the completely blocked channel of dialogue. We must at least be able to exchange voices in preparation for any emergency," and "Starting with the full restoration of the inter-Korean communication line, the priority is to open the way for direct dialogue with North Korea."
He added, "We must ensure that we do not face the upcoming armistice agreement next year with the same frustrating feelings as now," and "This is a new beginning."
