Partnership Established to Create Future-Oriented Video Content Production Studio
Joint Development of Video Content Production and Virtual Production Solutions Also Underway
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung Electronics announced on the 26th that it has signed a partnership with CJ ENM and plans to separately establish a 'Virtual Studio' within the 'CJ ENM Content Studio' complex opening in the second half of this year in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. The virtual studio is a cutting-edge facility where the entire set is decorated with large LED (Light Emitting Diode) screens, allowing various types of backgrounds to be implemented on the LED screens for filming.
Samsung Electronics will also supply its new product, 'The Wall,' a next-generation display based on Micro LED technology, to this location. The two companies plan to pursue multifaceted cooperation, including jointly developing video content production and virtual production solutions.
The studio being established this time is the first virtual production studio utilizing The Wall, with the main wall measuring an oval structure with a diameter of 20 meters and a height of over 7 meters. Samsung Electronics explained that this is the largest screen in Korea, creating a more advanced content production environment.
According to Samsung Electronics, The Wall enables real-time virtual environment implementation and filming in conjunction with cameras, reducing the time and cost required for on-site location or video compositing compared to existing production systems. It also enhances actors' immersion, enabling the production of higher-quality content. By applying modular technology, it allows customized designs desired by video producers and can be installed on ceilings or curved surfaces according to the studio's internal environment.
Additionally, it provides various convenient solutions such as ▲a large screen configuration of over 1000 inches (diagonal length 2540 cm) ▲playback of ultra-high-resolution content up to 16K ▲application of LED protective film resistant to dust and various contaminants ▲support for frame rates dedicated to studio production ▲frame synchronization to reduce screen tearing ▲easy remote management and color adjustment programs.
Kang Ho-sung, CEO of CJ ENM, said, "Through the partnership with Samsung Electronics, we have come one step closer to building a world-class virtual production studio," adding, "We will establish infrastructure capable of mass-producing well-made intellectual property (IP) and significantly increase investment in content to transform into a global comprehensive entertainment company."
