[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Samsung Electronics Canada Corporation will donate $1,000 each time Canadian athletes win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
According to Samsung Electronics Global Newsroom on the 25th, Samsung Electronics Canada plans to donate $1,000 to the Canadian Olympic Foundation every time a Canadian national team athlete wins a medal. The donation amount will be used to support sports development, including Canadian sports education programs.
As a global partner of the Tokyo Olympics, Samsung Electronics has promised a maximum support amount of $25,000 this year to help Canadian athletes achieve their goal of winning up to 25 medals.
Jeff Cho, CEO of Samsung Electronics Canada, said, "Greater efforts are needed to pass the torch to the next generation of athletes," and added, "We cheer for Canadian athletes to perform successfully in Tokyo."
David Shoemaker, Secretary General of the Canadian Olympic Committee, also said, "We are very pleased with Samsung Electronics' decision to support Canadian athletes and sports programs," and added, "This year's Olympics will be different from previous years, but the athletes will be encouraged by the support."
Samsung Electronics started as a regional partner at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and has participated as a global partner since the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics in Japan. At this Tokyo Olympics, it is acting as the official partner in the wireless communication field and has provided 17,000 units of the latest smartphone, the Galaxy S21 Tokyo 2020 Olympic Edition, to all members of the athlete delegation.
