[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Renault Samsung Motors announced on the 25th that the cumulative sales of the LPG model QM6 LPe have surpassed 60,000 units.
First introduced in June 2019, the Renault Samsung QM6 LPe is the only LPG sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Korea. Approximately 59,334 units were sold over about two years until June, and the sales exceeded 60,000 units by mid-month.
The company believes that the launch of the QM6 LPe model has brought a new turning point to the domestic LPG vehicle market. Contrary to the common perception that "LPG vehicles = low-priced vehicles," the sales proportion of premium models has been high. In fact, looking at the sales numbers by trim of the QM6 LPe, the top trim RE Signature and the premium line Premiere models accounted for about 40%.
It is also notable that QM6 LPe taxis continue to increase despite the absence of a taxi-exclusive model.
Kim Tae-jun, Head of Sales and Marketing at Renault Samsung, said, "Amid the recent trend of high oil prices, customers' interest in LPG vehicles, which offer high economic efficiency and low fine dust emissions, is growing. We will strive to continue the achievements of the domestic No.1 LPG vehicle, the QM6 LPe?the only LPG SUV in Korea that combines economic efficiency, eco-friendliness, patented safety, excellent driving stability, and refined design?that we accomplished last year."
