Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung reaffirmed his commitment to private school reform by posting a photo of the late President Roh Moo-hyun during his lifetime on his Facebook.
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, promised to achieve the private school reform that the late President Roh Moo-hyun devoted himself to.
On the 25th, Lee asked on Facebook, "Do you remember when we initiated the 'Fair Hiring in Private Schools' reform in Gyeonggi Province?" and then stated, "The full story behind the incident that triggered this has been revealed through a police investigation."
The Southern Gyeonggi Police Agency previously arrested three people, including an administrative director and teachers at a private school in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, who received more than 1.8 billion won in exchange for hiring contract teachers as regular employees, and booked 33 people without detention, including 21 contract teachers who gave bribes.
Lee said, "1.8 billion won was exchanged, and only 13 people who had received the questions or answers in advance passed," pointing out, "This is a disgusting history of private school corruption, a deep-rooted evil that must be eradicated."
He especially said, "It is an insult to the people who sincerely do their best," adding, "No matter how much you shout 'fairness' while neglecting this, it is useless."
Lee explained, "The 'Fair Hiring Agreement for Private Schools' ambitiously launched in Gyeonggi Province last February entrusts the entire hiring process?from the first document screening, interviews, to practical teaching tests?to the Office of Education," and added, "The core is to stop secretive hiring and hire fairly."
Furthermore, he introduced, "Private school reform is a reform that carries the footprints of democratic governments," and "It is a reform that President Roh Moo-hyun especially devoted himself to."
Lee then emphasized, "Following Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun, and Moon Jae-in, the 4th democratic government pledges to follow your footsteps further and to the end," and said, "Lee Jae-myung-style reform is to courageously and decisively solve problems that have been overlooked due to strong resistance from vested interests but are agreed upon by all citizens, without wavering."
