[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics announced on the 23rd that it has launched the 'Samsung SDN Solution' for operating in-house and external networks as well as 5G communication networks.
SDN (Software Defined Network) is a technology that centrally manages the control functions embedded in distributed switches and routers within a communication network based on software, supporting automation and real-time optimization. It excels in reducing communication network operating costs and improving efficiency through remote configuration and automation.
The 'Samsung SDN Solution' is an integrated solution applicable to private networks for corporate internet and facility management, as well as 5G dedicated networks including base stations and 5G mobile communication networks. Although it can be installed on a single server, it allows flexible expansion and modification depending on traffic, subscriber scale, and required solutions.
By utilizing this, the essential 'Network Slicing' technology for 5G-based mobile communication services can be applied. Network Slicing technology divides a single physical network into multiple virtual networks, enabling the provision of various customized services.
Additionally, it is easy to install and configure additional equipment such as switches and routers, supporting smooth traffic and services. Along with this, a user-friendly UX is applied to allow easy checking of important information such as communication ports and equipment status of individual communication devices, providing an intuitive and efficient operating environment.
Furthermore, it supports the 'Zero-touch Operation' feature that minimizes user intervention during installation and operation through advanced automation functions. It automatically recognizes connected switches from multiple manufacturers, configures individual devices, and in case of device failures, automatically sets up alternative routes while optimizing traffic.
Moreover, the 'Samsung SDN Solution' supports ONOS (Open Network Operating System), a representative open-source interface, enabling easy connection of switches and routers from various suppliers while offering high performance and reliability at the level of mobile communication networks verified in overseas 5G commercial networks.
Jung Seohyung, Executive Vice President of Software at Samsung Electronics’ Network Business Division, said, "By securing an SDN lineup that supports both enterprises and mobile communication operators, we have contributed to innovation that automates and enhances flexibility in 5G dedicated and mobile communication networks." He added, "The Samsung SDN Solution will promote the introduction of 5G infrastructure and services in mobile communication networks and industrial sites, accelerating innovation."
