Guro-gu Supports Volume-Based Waste Bags for Food Waste from Small Restaurants

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) will provide food waste volume-based bags to small restaurants.

On the 23rd, Guro-gu announced, "To support the management of small restaurants facing difficulties such as business restrictions and sales decline due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to provide food waste volume-based bags free of charge."

To this end, Guro-gu amended the 'Seoul Metropolitan City Guro-gu Waste Management Ordinance' last April to establish the basis for providing volume-based bags for emergency COVID-19 support free distribution.

The support targets registered businesses classified as general restaurants and rest restaurants with a business area of less than 200㎡. Large-scale waste generators and business waste emitters are excluded.

Guro-gu plans to directly distribute 90 pieces of 10-liter food waste volume-based bags, a total of 3 months' supply, to each business. Accordingly, about 5,000 small restaurants will receive a reduction in disposal fees worth 420 million KRW over 3 months.

A Guro-gu official said, "We hope this free volume-based bag support project will be of some help to small business owners affected by COVID-19," and added, "We will continue to prepare various support measures for small business owners and take the lead in revitalizing a sustainable local economy."
